How to change your lifestyle to be Healthy without making life complicated
We all want to be healthy, but finding the time is the real challenge.
Everyone of us wakes up in the morning with the intention of preparing a nutritious meal, working out, or even sleeping for a good eight hours. However, life does not seem to allow us time for all that. It is hard to choose between doing some exercise and working on your assignment or preparing dinner and going through fast food because of a stressful workday. With all the pressures existing at work, at home, on social media, and in many other forms of communication, it is increasingly difficult to find time for exercise, proper eating, sleep, and relaxing.
Considering the stress that individuals endure while in the work environment, as well as in their private life, including on social networking sites, it becomes increasingly difficult to manage physical activities, proper eating habits, and leisure.
Begin with small Improvements
One of the greatest faults in us while trying to be healthy is that we try to do too many things all at once.
We are going to do exercise every day, stop eating our favorite foods, wake up early, drink enough water, meditate, and sleep early starting from tomorrow. However, we know that this program is not sustainable for long as we cannot keep ourselves doing these for a few days. Instead, we should start from something small- for example, walk everyday in the evening or substitute our unhealthy snacks with some fruits. Once we get used to it, We will at something else. Such changes will be small, and thus not as appealing to us, yet, we will find it easier to stick to them.
Pay More Attention to What You Eat
Proper nutrition does not mean that you need to have monotonous and tasteless meals.
One can enjoy eating his/her favourite meals and at the same time, balance them with consuming more vegetables, fruits, whole grains and high-protein food along with the usual food. In addition, one may try to pay more attention to how many time one eats highly-processed food and snacks. You don’t have to give up on all of them. The best way is to eat healthy food as you staple and treats once in a while.
Make Physical Activity a Part of Your Daily Routine
Physical exercise does not mean you have to join the gym necessarily
You just need to walk after work, go upstairs, dance, cycle, stretch or play with you kids, among many other ways of exercising which will help you stay active. If most of your time goes in sitting at work, then some small activities will be enough initially, it does not matter if you cannot exercise for an hour each day. You need to choose something practical. It is always better to do something practical than an impractical workout routine that you will quit after a couple of weeks.
Do Not Think That Sleep is Something That Can Be Skipped
In situations when life becomes busy, sleep is the first thing that get skipped.
We sacrifice our sleep by working late into the night, playing a little bit more, watching a few more episodes and not going to bed on time. Proper sleep is an integral part of self-care. The amount of daily sleep required for adults varies from 7-9 hours. It is important to have a regular bedtime routine and sometime to relax before going to bed. Changing you habit of turning off your phone latter will change your nights entirely .
More Water Intake
Among all these, it is one of the simplest routines to follow. However, it might be difficult to stick to it.
Make sure you always have your water handy. Do not make any abrupt changes to your drinking routine in case you don’t consumes sufficient water. Make sure you make it easy for yourself to have water intake.
Do Not Compare Your Healthy Lifestyle to That of Other.
This is something that is easy to forget.
Those online might wake up at 5 a.m, do a one-hour workout, cook delicious healthy meals, meditate, keep a general and have an immaculate daily routine. But that doesn’t mean you have to follow the same way.Your routine needs to fit your schedule of work, family, duties, budget, and personal choices. Your healthy routine can be simple going on walks after dinner for half an hour. It can mean cooking at home more often. It can mean sleeping at regular hours. Not everyone has one routine
Don’t Expect Perfection
Then there are time when you do not indulge yourself any physical activity. You might have your favourite dessert. You might have slept in. You might spend you whole night in watching television. Its absolutely alright. Healthy living doesn’t depend on you doing things perfectly all the time.It depends on how much you generally do.
If you miss out on one day of doing things. You can always try again tomorrow.
A Simple Way to Start Today
There is no need to wait till Monday, the first day of the new month, or the start of a new year. Instead, begin right away doing the following things:
- walk for some distance.
- Stay hydrated.
- Have one healthy meal.
Do the same Tomorrow
When the pattern of your actions get easier to perform, do something else-go to bed earlier, eat homemade food, use screens less often.
Slowly, all those small things would form a habit.
